artist statement
I genuinely desired to share the pure essence of the Japanese Tea Ceremony with my work. The Japanese Tea Ceremony, also known as “Chadō” or “Sadō” (茶道), embodies the profound spirit of “Wabi-sabi”. “Wabi” signifies simplicity, while “Sabi” represents tranquility. It encompasses a worldview that embraces the transience and imperfection of life. Along with harmony, respect, purity, and tranquility, the values of "Wa-Kei-Sei-Jaku" (和敬清寂) - the four principles of tea ceremony, as well as the concept of "Ichi-go-Ichi-e" (一期一會), are encompassed within "Chadō." I hope my work can help audience let go of the outside world, feel peace and just focus on the precious moment of life.
In this contemporary society dominated by money, profit, and social hierarchies, I aspire for people to comprehend the essence of the tea ceremony spirit. The Way of Tea not only revolves around the seasons but also perpetually unfolds in accordance with the cycle of the sexagenary cycle. In a person's lifetime, even with a long life, it is only limited to around ten cycles of the sexagenary cycle. It is precisely within this finite time that we should cherish and savor every moment. Therefore, I want to encourage that every individual is entitled to enjoy their life, enjoy the beauty of nature, cherish and be grateful for each encounter, and live their life without regrets.
